New Features And Removals In Hyperion EPM 11.2


Oracle continuously releases new versions in Hyperion, with the latest being the release of Cloudera. Everyone assumed that 11.1.2.x is the last release on On-Premise, but Oracle announced that they will be releasing 11.2.x On-Premise which is the latest and it will have the functionalities of cloud applications. Let’s have a look at the details of the new features and also the old features that were replaced by the newer version.

A Glance of the Product Support Details for On-Premises:

1. Version

  • Premier Support through Dec 2021

2. Version 11.2

  • Scheduled for October 2019* (*Oracle Safe Harbor applies)
  • Uplift to FMW 12g release
  • Repository Simplification (released previously in and cloud)
  • Ongoing release for all defect fixing, third party certification updates and enhancements through at least 2030

On-Premises Release 11.2

On-Premises Release 11.2 date is planned for the last quarter of 2019 (*Oracle Safe Harbor applies)

  • Uplift to FMW 12g release
    • Oracle Essbase will be used for Hyperion EPM 11.2 initially
    • Uplift to Essbase 19c after on-prem is made available and validation occurs
  • Repository Simplification
    • Streamlined and simplified infrastructure and architecture for the future
    • Replaced foundation services with a simpler RDBMS repository
    • Content migration for FR/Workspace to RDBMS repository
  • 3rd party certifications, including, but not limited to:
    • OS: Windows 2019 (Linux 7 & AIX 7.2 to follow in subsequent PSU)
    • RDBMS: Oracle 12.2, SQL Server 2017
    • JDK 1.8
  • Calc manager does not require Adobe Flash

Migration Process

  • New release follows “Out of Place” Migration
  • High Level Flow
    • Install 11.2 on new hardware with supported OS, pre-requisites
    • Use LCM from version to migrate applications, artifacts, etc to 11.2 version
    • The process is similar to the previous releases
  • Note: Only LCMs from version is supported to migrate to 11.2 version, no other versions can be used.

Hyperion Planning

  • Hyperion Strategic Finance
  • Crystal Ball (replaced by Predictive Planning)
  • Simplified User Interface (SUI)
  • Workforce Planning
  • Capital Expense Planning
  • Project Financial Planning
  • Offline Planning


  • EPM Architect (EPMA)
  • Disclosure Management

  • Batch scripts to ease EPMA replacement
  • Enhanced DRG Experience

Key Announcement

  • EPM Architect (EPMA) will not be available as a foundation component in EPM 11.2 and beyond
  • For existing deployments of EPM Architect:
    • Oracle Data Relationship Management will be offered under a restricted use license to facilitate Oracle Hyperion EPM (on premises only) dimension maintenance
    • Alternatively converts to “classic”
  • A Migration Kit will be published including a whitepaper and scripts to assist with dimension extraction from EPMA to DRM
