Automation Of Objects Migration In Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services (IICS)
There are different types of objects like tasks, mappings, task flows and components in Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services (IICS), which we can migrate from one environment to other such as Development, QA and Production. In order to do so, we need to login to the source environment, select the objects which need to be exported, export them and then download the file.
However, this is quite a lengthy process and totally relies on human activity. During this long export process there might be a fair possibility for manual errors. Once everything goes fine, we need to login to the target environment where we want to import the code and need to perform the import task manually.
Below is the current process of exporting the data from the source environment.
- Login the Source environment
- Select the objects needs to be exported as shown below
- Download the zip file from My Import/Export Log
Once this is completed, we need to login to the target environment and need to perform import activity manually. The major problem over here is, the person who is performing this activity might be aware of the tool or not. In such a case, if he modifies any component by accident, it may lead to logical issues. To overcome this issue, we may need to provide appropriate knowledge transfer regarding the components which needs to be migrated.
In order to overcome the above issues, we need to automate the process of migrating the components without entering the informatica cloud UI. We only need to provide the list of components which need to be migrated, so that our out of the box process will take those components list, login to the source environment and checks whether the list of provided components are available or not. If those components are found, it will initiate the “Export” action to informatica cloud account and downloads all components into a zip file in the mentioned path.
Once the download action is completed, it will log out from the source environment. Now it will start the second phase of migration which is importing the components in the target environment. This process will utilise the user credentials provided for the target environment and performs login action, to login to the target environment. After successful login to the target environment, it will initiate the “Import” action and imports the assets which were downloaded in the previous environment. In this way it will perform the objects migration automatically and at a faster pace.
Benefits of Automation:
- Drastic reduction of migration time
- No manual efforts are required
- No room for human errors
Automating is therefore the best way to migrate objects as it avoids human errors because there is no requirement of manual inputs to perform the job. Furthermore, it will greatly reduce the time taken for the migration.
